Bosch Security Systems, Inc. Privacy Statement

This Privacy Statement describes how Bosch Security Systems, Inc. ("Bosch" or "we" or "us") may collect, use, share and keep information about you, and the choices that are available to you when you use the websites and other products and services provided by Bosch, such as the Service Portal (with access to our third party provider websites) and the security-related mobile applications ("mobile apps"). We welcome your interest in our company and our products.

Bosch respects your privacy

The protection of your privacy is important to us. The type of information we collect depends upon the products or services you use, and is collected when you voluntarily provide the information to us or when you use our products and services. We will also collect data when you receive or reply to electronic communications from us, or interact with us through social media websites and other websites and apps. We work with service providers to help us provide some of our products and services to you. Bosch and its service providers collect personal data (such as first and last name, e-mail addresses, home or business address) and non-personal data (such as IP addresses and device types), in connection with Bosch products and services.

Data protection and information security are also used to safeguard your personal and non-personal data.

Collection and processing of personal data

Personal data is collected and processed through our websites when you provide it to us directly or through your use of the Bosch websites and includes first and last names, addresses, phone numbers, email addresses, associate website login information, information related to invoicing, in context of an account registration or modification to an existing account, when you request services from us, when you contact us for customer support services and any other information you choose to provide to Bosch.

Personal data is collected and processed by Bosch and its service providers when you use the security-related mobile apps and may include security system authentication, video images from security cameras, security alarm PIN codes and the state of your security alarms. No personal data is stored in permanent memory on your mobile device or stored anywhere outside of your home or business security system.

Use of personal data

Bosch and its service providers when provisioning and administering data services may use your personal data including for the purpose of:

  • technical administration of the websites
  • customer, supplier or service provider account administration
  • managing security risks
  • improving or changing the Service Portal including to:
    • create product surveys for customers
    • develop new features and services
  • conducting research and analysis, including to better understand our customers, perform data analytics and reports, make improvements or other changes to our websites, mobile applications, products and services
  • respond to inquiries you submit to Bosch, including those made through other websites, mobile applications and social media
  • for marketing purposes
  • associate website login information (solely for installers and dealers to access their login information and will not be shared with a third party)
  • compliance with legal requirements

When using our mobile applications ("mobile apps"), your individual, identifiable personal data cannot be accessed or used by Bosch, its service providers or any third parties. To facilitate your use of mobile apps, you may enter personal information into the mobile app, however, your personal data will only be accessible by you and it will only be saved in volatile memory on your device which is cleared when the application is closed. The mobile apps collect information from you in this way to:

  • Authenticate you or another authorized end user on a security system
  • Allow you to view still images recorded from a security system camera
  • Allow you to view alarm states to determine if a security system is armed, disarmed or malfunctioning
Sharing of personal data

Bosch may share information we collect about Users as described in this Privacy Statement as follows:

  • with our affiliated entities, including our parent company in Germany, Robert Bosch GmbH
  • with our third party service providers and other partners performing work on our behalf, in order to provide you with the websites, products and services Bosch offers to businesses and consumers
  • with the general public or with the users of specific products and services if you submit content to a website such as a review of a product or service
  • with relevant authorities as required or permitted by law
  • if we believe disclosure is necessary or appropriate to protect the rights, property, or safety of Bosch, its employees, its customers, its third party providers or partners, or the public
  • in connection with, or during negotiations of, any merger, sale of company assets, consolidation or restructuring, financing, or acquisition of all or a portion of our business by or into another company
  • in an aggregated and/or anonymized form which cannot reasonably be used to identify you
  • in other ways with your consent

Your individual, identifiable, personal data will not otherwise be disclosed to third parties, other than Bosch's affiliated entities, without your consent.

Collection, processing and use of non-personal data

When you visit the Service Portal and its affiliated websites, we may also collect automatically the following non-personal data: IP addresses, the website from which you visit us (referrer), pages viewed, files downloaded (downloads), videos viewed/audio tracks listened to, individual links clicked, search words or search phrases (site search), duration of visit, browser used, etc. If the visit is a result of online advertising such as banners, video ads, search engine advertising, etc., we may record which banner, ad word, etc. motivated the visit to the website.

The insights gained from this information enable us to further optimize the Installer Services Portal and tailor it even better to our visitors' needs.

When you use our mobile apps, certain data may be used or provided for use of the application. The following non-personal data may be accessed and displayed by the application: IP addresses, security system configuration and dealer information and icons. The IP addresses and security system configuration data is used by the app to contact and configure your security system. The dealer information is provided to you to allow quick access for support in using your security systems and mobile apps. Any sensitive non-personal information used or stored on your mobile device for use in the application is stored in encrypted form and is not readable or shared with Bosch or any third parties.

Collection, processing and use of support data

Support Data is the information we collect when you contact or engage Bosch for support in regards to our websites or mobile applications. It includes information you submit in a support request or provide when you contact support services directly. It may also include information about hardware, software, and other details gathered related to the support incident, such as contact or authentication information, information about the condition of the machine and the application when the fault occurred and during diagnostics, system and registry data about software installations and hardware configurations, and error tracking files. In addition to using Support Data to resolve your support incident, we use Support Data to operate, improve and personalize the products and services we offer.

Collection, processing and use of web analytics data

Bosch, in some instances, may collect certain personal and non-personal data for use for purposes of understanding and optimizing web usage and as a tool for business and market research. In no instances will the personal data be shared with any third parties without your consent.

If a third party web analytics tool is used, the private data is transformed to an anonymized form so that it can no longer be traced back to a user. Cookies may be used for metrics to enable website use to be analyzed.

Collection, processing and use of payment data

Business customers who use the Bosch Data Services will be asked to provide information, which may include payment instrument number (e.g., credit card), name and billing address, the security code associated with the payment instrument, organizational tax ID, and other financial data ("Payment Data"). Bosch does not collect Payment Data directly and uses an independent trusted third party vendor (Adyen) to collect any Payment Data. Please direct any privacy inquiries regarding Payment Data to Adyen. Bosch is not responsible for the privacy or security practices regarding the Payment Data, which may differ from those set forth in this privacy statement.

US and Canada

The websites, products and services, including the Service Portal and the mobile applications are intended for use by users located in the US and Canada. Any individuals or entities using these websites, products and services from outside of the US and Canada are not eligible to use them and do so at their own risk and must adhere to local usage, data privacy and other applicable laws and regulations.

Data and Server Location

The Service Portal is hosted on the Bosch Servers currently located in either Germany or the United States. All data that Bosch processes on your behalf may be transferred to, and stored and processed in, the United States or any other country in which Bosch or its affiliates or subcontractors maintain facilities. You appoint Bosch to perform any such transfer of data to any such country and to store and process data in order to provide the Service Portal.

Our mobile applications use wireless cellular and Internet connections for communication with security panels. The Bosch Cloud-based Services (CBS) servers are used as one source of data transfer between the security system and some of our apps. The CBS servers are currently located in the United States. All data may be transferred to, and processed in, the United States or any other country in which CBS or its affiliates or subcontractors maintain facilities. You appoint CBS to perform any such transfer of data to any such country and to process data in order to provide the Remote Security Control Application. In other cases, cellular or Internet connections may be used for transfer of data and may be located in the United States and other countries.

International Data Transfer

Bosch may transfer your personal data to its parent company in Germany, Robert Bosch GmbH, and to any worldwide affiliates when processing data.

Through the course of using the our apps on your mobile device to communicate with your security system, data may be transferred and processed in both encrypted and unencrypted formats through multiple locations located both in the United States and other countries. The data is not stored at any sites or locations except for temporary volatile memory storage on the mobile device for use in the application. The data is erased when the application is closed on the device.

Use of social plugins as part of social media

Bosch websites use social plugins ("plugins") from social networks like Facebook, Google+ and Twitter. The plugins are identified with the respective social media logo or the respective suffix.

If you visit a page on our website that contains such plugins, they are initially disabled. The plugins are not enabled until you click the button that is provided. By enabling the plugins, you establish the connection to the respective social network and declare your consent to the transmission of data to it. If you are logged into the social network, it can associate the visit with your social network account. If you press the respective button, the corresponding information is transmitted directly to the social network by your browser and stored there.

If you do not want a social network to collect data about you via our website, you have to log out of the social network before visiting our site.

Our websites may also use the YouTube video platform that enables playback of audio and video files. When you load a page on our website, the integrated YouTube player establishes a connection to YouTube in order to ensure the technical transmission of the video or audio file. When the connection to YouTube is established, data is transferred to YouTube.

For information about the scope and purpose of data collection, the further processing and use of the data by these social media companies, and your rights and the settings you can configure to protect your privacy, please refer to their data protection notices.

Use of external links

The Service Portal may contain links to third-party websites operated by providers that are not associated with us. After you click the link, we no longer have any influence over the collection, storage, or processing of any personal data transmitted by clicking the link (such as the IP address or URL of the page that contains the link), as the behavior of third parties is, by nature, beyond our control. Therefore, Bosch is not responsible for the processing of personal data by third parties.

Use of Registration via the central Bosch ID

You may register for our online offers [exclusively] using the central Bosch ID. The centralized Bosch ID was devised by Robert Bosch GmbH for the Bosch Group in order to allow for the joint users to benefit from offers of different group companies using centralised application data and increase data safety.

Robert Bosch GmbH, Robert-Bosch-Platz 1 70839 Gerlingen-Schillerhöhe, Germany ("RBG") is responsible for the provision of this single sign-on service.

If you want to apply for a centralized Bosch ID, the General Terms of Use for the Registration and Use of a centralized Bosch ID and the Data Protection Notice of RBG shall apply.

After successful registration you may utilize the registration data used for the centralized Bosch ID also for registering for this online offer. To this end, we shall provide an RBG registration template for the centralized Bosch ID. RBG then shall confirm your authorization and provide us with the master data required for using our offers (e.g. surname, first name, date of birth, company name, email address, telephone numbers, mail address). Your password shall not be communicated to us.

Concerning further data transfers within the Bosch Group associated with the centralized Bosch ID, please refer to the Data Protection Notice. You may cancel your user agreement concerning the centralized Bosch ID at any time by unregistering. Bosch takes reasonable physical and account security precautions intended to protect the data we collect from Users against tampering, loss, destruction, access by unauthorized persons, or from unauthorized disclosure. Our security measures are being continuously improved in accordance with the state of commercially available technological developments for similar products and services.

Use of Organization or Third Party Email and Bosch Responsibilities:

If you use an email address provided by an organization you are affiliated with or another source, such as an employer or school or a third party email provider, to access the Service Portal and partner websites, the owner of the domain associated with your email address may: (i) control and administer your account and (ii) access and process your data, including the contents of your communications and files. Your use of the Service Portal and partner websites may be subject to your email provider's policies, if any. If your email provider is administering your use of the Service Portal and partner websites, please direct your privacy inquiries to your administrator.


When you provide us with personal data, we use it to inform you about our products and services and, where applicable, to include you in surveys about them. If you no longer wish to receive advertising from Bosch, you can revoke your consent at any time.
